Reasons Why TikTok is the Best Social Media Marketing Strategy

By: Morgan Emery

Since the rise of social media, marketing on these platforms has quickly become one of the most influential methods of campaigns. YouTubers started sharing their favorite (or least favorite) products in their shopping hauls, brands began posting their newest products on Instagram, and Snapchat filters allowed us to try certain products without ever leaving our home. TikTok has become arguably the most influential app over the last five years, and brands are starting to hone in on pushing out campaigns to reach millions of consumers. Here are the top reasons why TikTok is the greatest social media app for marketing campaigns:

Popularity

TikTok is popular. The app has billions of users making it more likely that marketers will reach their target audience, especially if the target market is a younger demographic. However, that doesn’t exclude older generations! TikTok’s primary age demographic is members of Gen Z, making up 60% of all users on the app, perfect for companies with similar target markets. The app has also catapulted in popularity over the last 3+ years, with over one billion total users worldwide making it the 7th biggest social media app available.

Creativity

The creativity that brands have in creating these short yet attention-grabbing details is unlimited. Whether you have basic or professional skills, you are able to capture your audience using bright colors, fun songs, and keeping up with whatever trends are most popular at the time. Influencers are also a popular way that brands can appeal to younger audiences as they can create great revenue for the product while demonstrating how a product looks, acts and feels.

Management

According to a blog by Hootsuite, it is pretty easy to manage a TikTok marketing campaign! They recommend to:

  1. Define your target audience

  2. Perform a competitive analysis to determine what competitors are active and how successful their campaigns are

  3. Determine the frequency of your posting – the more often, the better!

  4. Keep track of the analytics to make sure your campaign is reaching virality

  5. Experiment and have fun when creating the videos!

The End of TikTok?

One major threat facing TikTok marketing is many states–and potentially the entire country–threatening to ban the app since it is considered a “threat to national security.” Six states including North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Louisiana have new laws in place banning TikTok on all state-owned devices, leaving many universities and colleges banning the app on their school’s wifi, making it inaccessible for students to view any advertisements–let alone any sort of content–creating a rift in the app’s main age demographic. TikTok is working on creating a security and privacy plan to abide by an investigation held by the Biden administration.
