Meet Darwin H.

Hi, my name is Darwin Hiram Marquez Rosario. I’m a chemist from Puerto Rico who’s currently pursuing a PharmD major and a minor in public health here at Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, class of 2029!

“If things are going to get done, better get them done right.”

I decided to take this course because so much of the world now runs through social media. My experience with social platforms is pretty basic. I know how to post, use hashtags, and interact at a simple level, but I want to learn how to use these tools strategically and confidently. As I continue developing myself as a future healthcare professional, it’s important for me to stay up to date with how technology and communication are evolving. One of my long-term goals is to own my own pharmacy, and I want to be able to market it effectively so people can find it, trust it, and feel motivated to visit.

There are a few things I hope to gain from this class: a stronger understanding of social media, the ability to use it the “right way”, and the confidence to create content without worrying about others’ opinions. Ultimately, I’m here to build my skills, find my voice, and discover what I’m capable of in the social media and digital marketing world.

A little bit about me: I earned my bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. After graduating, I worked as a chemist for a year before applying to Duquesne, and now I’m continuing my studies online while working full-time at a community pharmacy. Personality-wise, I tend to be introverted at first, but once I feel comfortable, I open up and become much more outgoing.

To wrap things up, 2025 brought me countless lessons, memories, and changes that I’m carrying with me into 2026, but the biggest and most meaningful one is that I became a dad. In just a couple of weeks, my son will be born, and that is truly the greatest gift life has ever given me. Once I received the news, everything in my life shifted. My priorities, my mentality, and the way I approach my goals all changed instantly. Now, everything I do has a new purpose, and that is my son/ family.

That’s one of the main reasons I chose this class. I want to stay up to date with the world, especially the fast-moving digital and social media landscape, because I want to build a stable future, grow professionally, and be prepared for the opportunities that come my way. I know some people might look at my situation and think that working full-time while completing a doctorate program is too much. And yes, it is a lot. But I’m not doing it alone. I have the full support of my family and friends, and that support is everything. It keeps me motivated, grounded, and focused.

Right now, all I need is that constant reminder to keep going and never give up, because my path is no longer just about me. It’s also about my son, my little Gio Hiram, and the life I want to build for him.
