Understanding Mobile Apps

Mobile apps are a computer application program designed to run on a mobile device such as a cellphone, tablet, or watch. Apps have become almost necessary to have on our devices today for many reason such as keeping connected, for convenience, and lifestyle tips and tricks. Additionally mobile apps can be used for businesses to increase customer loyalty, communicate directly with customers, and promote ads to increase sales. With technology growing rapidly over the years mobile apps have become an easy solution for business inquires to stay up to trend with consumers.

Amongst all the apps, social media apps have become one of the most popular mobile apps available today (Matteo). Due to the majority of the population being on their mobile devices social apps have increased networks between people.  An example of some social media apps that involve online connecting include: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat (Matteo). All of these social media apps give people the platform to share their day-to-day lives more than ever before (Matteo). Social media apps are great for businesses as well. If you provide a service or product adding social sharing features can functionality keep your users coming back to purchase more and can even help connect your business with more networks (Matteo). Overall social media apps are a great way to get your product or service out there for many too see for the cost of nothing.  

Another popular type of mobile app revolves around lifestyle. These apps have grown in recent years because they are directed to a target market. By customizing aspects of a mobile app to a persons personal liking an app can become part of an everyday routine to check up on. Some of these app topics include: fitness, dating, food, and music. The most important part of marketing for lifestyle apps with a target audience is gathering data about the users (GuestPost). Spotify, a music app, does a great job at this by tracking which type of music the user listens to. With that information Spotify is able to create personalized playlist for their users which enhances the customer experience. By providing real value for a specific group of people apps can help target a businesses market to increase sales (GuestPost).

On top of apps keeping up with social trends and personalized data, apps are a great way to stay ahead of the tech curve. Apps can especially help businesses keep up with the latest technology while also making customer lives easier. For example, Starbucks has a mobile ordering app where customers are able to pre order and pay for their drinks ahead of time so they don’t have to wait in long lines. Enabling customers to book a table, order online, or pay for their order using the app on their smartphone the business gets a powerful tool to increase loyalty (Fedorychak). Constant interaction increases loyalty, and in turn good loyalty level stimulates sales (Fedorychak). Once a customer downloads a mobile app it is most likely they are going to keep it on their phone and use it regularly. Businesses who have apps are manifesting a loyal customers base and staying on top of society trends.
