What is TikTok?

The most popular app in the world, is a platform for users to post all different types of content, from dancing and lip sync videos, to cooking and comedy. The possibilities are endless. You have an account where you can create your own content, share videos with friends, and view videos on the “For You Page”, where Tik Tok uses an algorithm to show you videos that you would like. Although it is most popular among younger generations, all different ages are seen using TikTok.

Tik Tok Statistics (2021)

  • As of June 2021, 60 percent of Tik Tok users are between the ages of 16 and 24

  • Almost 50% of Tik Tok’s global audience is under the age of 34.

  • The TikTok app has been downloaded over 1.5 billion times worldwide.

  • TikTok downloads in 2020 reached 850 million.

  • The TikTok app reach is worldwide: 466 million are from India, 173 million from China, and 123 million from the U.S.

Tik Tok’s Tactics

Tik Tok’s goals are to generate “user value,” “long-term user value,” “creator value,” and “platform value”. The apps main goal can be monitored through retention, and time spent on the app, being that the goal is to keep the user on the app for as long as possible. The app offers an endless stream of videos, ranging in times from under 15 seconds to 3 minutes. The shorter the video, the more views it will generate through the apps algorithm. The more views and likes a video gets, the more Tik Tok will boost it. The amount of views and likes a tik Tok gets determines how much money the user can generate from their post.
