Shopping On Pinterest- Joely Zappia

Pinterest over the years has grown into one of the biggest built- in shopping platforms. While people save pins to their boards and organize them based off characteristics like holidays and moods, Pinterest’s features allow users to shop directly from the app and it’s completely taken over the online shopping world.

How It Works

A lot of shoppers don’t always knows what it is that they’re looking for specifically. Pinterest has blown up over the past few years because of its personalized shopping tactics. Instead of having to bookmark, print, or email pictures to find similar items, Pinterest has links on products to take you directly to the site where you purchase them. Their software is able to build every person a feed catered specifically towards them. This feature is similar to Tik Tok’s “For You Page” that shows you videos based off of others you like, it’s the same idea but better because they can sell you anything!

This has become extremely big for start up businesses, small businesses, wholesalers, etc. The technology gives these businesses access to a much broader nationwide audience. Pinterest is able to generate their revenue off people buying directly through their app or website. Though they don’t have as many users as their competitors, Facebook or Twitter, people have said they view Pinterest as a site that holds more valuable information. Once you post on Pinterest and add a link to your product, you’re done! The software will do all the marketing and the rest of the work for you.

The Rise of Online Shopping

Online shopping has always been a great alternative for when you’re in a time crunch or simply don’t want to go out. However, the rise in online shopping has picked up immensely in recent years due to the pandemic. Many apps like Instagram, Tik Tok, and Pinterest were able to create E-commerce stores and join in on the phenomenon. The difference is that on an app like Instagram or Tik Tok you want to escape the ads and on Pinterest you want to see the ads because they’re things you’ve liked or pinned to boards.

The Advantages

  • Visual Storytelling: Pinterest before it was a duel shopping platform was known for the way it’s able to create boards that express any mood, feeling, event, or artistry. Now, the app is able to take these visuals and create the perfect target market to match brands with.

  • Expanded Reach: Pinterest is able to reach people from all over the world which expands personal connections and the market.

  • Enhanced Product Discoverability: This discoverability and personal reach go hand in hand. By posting and pinning to boards you’re able to expand your clients’ merchandise. Pinterest is able to show you the price, similar products, size, etc to create that interactive shopping experience for their users.

By the time you’ve created all your boards and pinned a few posts to each, Pinterest will have a catalog specialized for you and everything you could want. Imagine it like your own personal store! It’s beneficial for businesses to create boards and become pinners as well. This allows the brands to showcase how their products are used or what they’re used for and are able to keep all their ideas organized.

Conclusion

Throughout all the phases and trends we see on social media, we can agree that online shopping isn’t going anywhere and will continue to evolve. The technology Pinterest has developed has shifted their app and involved them in the world of E-commerce shopping. With Pinterest’s current success in mind it’ll be interesting to see over time how they evolve.
