My approach to promoting my blog article were through the means of texting and emailing the link to people I know, and and posting it on my Facebook.

My Data
Looking at my data, Facebook obtained the most users and had the highest average engagement time out of my three promotion methods. However, the results are not overwhelmingly in Facebook’s favor. It gained only one more active user than both email and SMS. Also, email outperformed SMS in engagement time, coming around one minute short of Facebook’s average.
From my data, Facebook appears to be a solid option for promoting my blog. I believe this success is due to the strategic use of hashtags in my post. I selected hashtags with high activity, aiming to extend my reach beyond my existing followers. While SMS and email ensure that links are delivered directly to recipients, their reach is limited to my contacts and the people they would potentially share to. Facebook, especially when positing publicly, can potentially let my post be seen by millions of people outside my immediate network.
I believe my results would have leaned more in Facebook’s favor if I had used a more active account. The account I posted on was one I just created with very few followers and no prior engagement. If I had shared the post from an account with an established audience and higher activity, the algorithm might have increased its reach beyond my followers. For next time I would want to optimize creating an active social media account for my blog to be posted on.
Aside from using a more active account, I would also refine my SEO to make it more attention-grabbing. An interesting description could encourage more clicks by highlighting why it’s worth their time. This could help people want to click to learn more about me and what they could gain from reading my blog. I would optimize keywords and, craft engaging headlines to further gain visibility and engagement for all my promotional platforms.
Finally, I would optimize thinking about PAC and SOC. When creating these promotions I was not thinking about the culture aspect of PAC. I posted a generic post to my Facebook and had similar wording in my emails. I was not trying to focus on a certain cohort of people. For next time I would try to relate what I am saying in my post or email to a cohort of people, such as fellow college students, and update my SOC to match this in order to spark more interest by relating to their interest.
Web vs Mobile
As seen in my data above mobile traffic made up the majority of my total users. Across all platforms I used to promote my blog, mobile was the dominant medium. SMS had no web traffic and Email and Facebook had two total. I was surprised by how little web traffic email generated, as I personally access my email mainly on my computer. However, with mobile devices now functioning as computers, most people have email readily on their phones.
This insight highlighted the importance of optimizing my promotion strategy for mobile users. I need to ensure my blog’s layout is mobile-friendly and that my SEO strategy is designed to grab attention on mobile screens. Based off the data I would gear my campaign to be more focused on the mobile user. However, I could still work to improve web traffic. I think this can mainly be found through a new medium of promoting. SMS, Email, and Facebook are geared towards the mobile user. To optimize more web traffic next time I could incorporate better SEO for desktop searches while also making it mobile friendly. I could also look into collaborating with other blog-style websites to help attract more web traffic.
