Duquesne Alpha Phi Social Media Audit
I decided to do my social media audit on the social platforms that my sorority, Alpha phi, uses. This is one of the many sororities on Duquesne’s campus so I wanted to do an audit to see the engagement on each of the different social media platforms as well as see which socials were doing poorly or inactive. It is important to do a social media audit to see what areas you can improve on in order to get more engagement and reach a larger audience, if that is one of your goals.
Findings
Alpha Phi is very active on Instagram and tik tok and seem to have a good following as well as high engagements with likes and comments. I am interested in analyzing the statistics to see more details about the engagement. Tik Tok, in my opinion, is the easiest social media platform to go viral on so I think that could be used to Alpha Phi’s advantage. They have one video that has 531.8k views, 61.3k likes and 951 likes which is the most on their Tik Tok page. After looking over the alpha phi tik tok it seems like the more fun and casual videos get more engagement.
I think that Instagram is the most used platform that college students have that Duquesne Alpha Phi has. They do a great job with posting photos as well as stories that capture and highlight all of the girls within the sorority. In addition, they spread useful information to other organizations on campus and keep them up to date on any events coming up. The Greek community is very close knit, and the other sororities and fraternities will post when they have events so that other sororities can participate. As well, when we post pictures with other members of alpha phi we can tag duqalphaphi so that the Instagram can repost them which could also increase engagement.
Recommendations
I looked over the other social media platforms including their Facebook and twitter. I think that they should deactivate twitter due to the lack of posts since 2018 and I think they should update Facebook to gear it towards the proper audience. The Facebook audience should be more parents and alumnae oriented, opposed to the Instagram which is more aimed towards students and potential students that may be interesting in joining the sorority. I think that Twitter should eb deactivated because it has not been posted on since January of 2018. In addition, I think that Instagram covers enough ground where Twitter is not necessary and they are both reaching the same audience, so might as well put all the energy into Instagram, since twitter already seems inactive.
Social Care
I think there are many different types of social care that Duquesne Alpha Phi has to tend to on a daily basis, and this is a huge part of running the social media. First, if there are potential students that are interested in joining alpha phi and they have any questions or concerns they may need to get in contact with the sorority directly. Instagram direct message is the best place to do this because Instagram is their most active platform and it has a quick and efficient way of messaging profiles. The VP of marketing is in charge of the social media accounts and it is therefor their responsibility to answer and tend to the needs of those that direct message the account. There is also a social care aspect between Alpha phis social media in regard to all of the members within the sorority. The members have flyers and stories that they may have to post or they may have to post pictures and tag @duqalphaphi which helps the accounts reach more people.
