Mint Mobile Social Media Audit
What is Mint Mobile?
Mint Mobile Is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator that provides wireless communication services on the T-Mobile wireless network. It is owned by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, and have given themselves the mission “to take what’s wrong with wireless and make it right” and to create an affordable wireless service that they would want to use themselves. Mint Mobile wishes to give people an option that isn’t big wireless and free people from crazy fees, expensive contracts, and, in their own words, “overall nonsense”. Mint Mobile strives to be the easiest and most affordable wireless service in America. Mint Mobile has a running theme of humorous commercials that are done with a “Low budget” so they can continue to save their users money. This theme is something that is present in all of the social media platforms that mint mobile occupies. The social media accounts in question are Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and TikTok
Short Summary and Instagram Findings
Through my research into Mint Mobiles social media accounts i have found that each of them posses a very similar structure and theme. The majority of their accounts posts advertising for mint mobiles low cost wireless plans, usually containing a humorous tone and including the star of the show Ryan Reynolds. There are several posts that i have confirmed to just be re purposed commercials that have been used on tv, which now that i think about it, goes pretty well with their “low budget” brand. The account that does the advertising posts the most however is their instagram.
From what I have seen, their instagram page is almost exclusively reserved for advertising posts. This mainly comes in the form of colorful still images or short videos with Ryan. However they do also include fan posts such as videos from fans making funny remarks or posting their comments or tweets. Its these fan posts that seem to get the most attention from the viewers as well. While their instagram does seem to have less user interaction than their other sites, it also boasts their highest follower count at over 90,000.
Facebook Findings
The Next account, facebook, Has the second highest follower count at 82,977 and follows a very similar system to their Instagram page. It has the same Advertising posts with Ryan Reynolds and also contains the posts and comments of fans who sing mint’s praises. However, the big thing that sets this apart from Instagram is the amount of user interaction that happens in the facebook page. Many of the posts have comments attached to them, and Mint mobile has responded to a majority of these comments, both praises and complaints alike. Other than that, Mint Mobiles Facebook page is very similar to their Instagram account
Twitter findings
As is the case with the first two accounts, Mint Mobile’s Twitter account has the same advertising and fan content you will see on all of Mint’s accounts. There are some unique aspects to the twitter account, for instance, Mint will make posts that are just short, individual messages. This is very noticeable, as mast of the content on Mint Mobile’s social media accounts is image based. Other than that, there is not much else that is unique about their twitter page, wich is displayed in its smaller follower count of 38.8K
Indeed Findings
Their indeed account is where things get unique. This is due to the fact that this page is targeting potential employees rather than consumers. While it is true that this page does include advertising posts for their phone plans, it also contains posts that relate more to their business. This includes more professional posts about partnerships with smaller businesses and info on the mint mobile team such as a recorded discussion with their CMO. This page also displays information on their current employees such as the frequency in which people have joined, the total number of employees, and other such industrial insight. Overall i would say that this account serves as a great tool for anyone looking to join Mint Mobile.
TikTok Findings
Out of all of Mint Mobile’s social media accounts, TikTok is by far their weakest link. This account has only 3684 followers and a grand total of 7 posts. and each one of the same posts that appears on every one of Mint’s social accounts. to be fair, this account has only existed for about a month, but even then seven posts is still not a lot.
Recommendations
As you may have gathered from my findings, the biggest problem that mint mobile has with its social media accounts is variety. Each account seems to recycle the same posts from the others, and at a similar time. For instance in every one of the social media account I have mentioned, the same giant logo commercial can be found within the first three posts. That being said, the content itself is not bad by any sense of the word, the commercials are usually really funny and the way they respond to comments can be very endearing. The problem is that the content is the same on most of the platforms besides Indeed, so if you follow one, there is not much point in following the others. As such, I believe that it would be a good idea to get more content that is unique to the different platforms like that have on their indeed page. This would encourage users to interact with all of their accounts rather than just one or two. I would also encourage them to put more effort into their TikTok page, that medium is becoming increasingly popular and their comedic brand as well as Ryan Reynolds star power would mix very well with TikTok’s brand
