Ocean Lab Brewery Co - Social Media Audit

For Assignment four we were tasked with doing a social media audit for a company with which we have worked in the past or a company that we follow. Ocean Lab Brewing Co. is a company that has not been in the Puerto Rican market for long but has quickly risen to one of the top beers in Puerto Rico. Its vast majority of flavors to satisfy whatever consumer taste palette and its balance of light and dark beer has seen them rise to the top with the likes of Corona, Michelob, Medalla and Coors Light. Even though the story of how it started is very interesting we are here to talk about the social media auditing of their social media presence.

On Instagram Ocean Lab’s handle is @oceanlabbrewingco. They have a very good reputation of always trying to interact with their followers and making them feel like part of the experience which shows brand engagement. They have a total of 4,934 likes and 71 comments in the posts that they have made since the start of 2023. Their top post was on January 19 in which they received a whopping 762 likes and 4 comments. I know that this might not seem as much but for a company in Puerto Rico to get this many likes is a very good sign. They have gathered 41.1 thousand followers since launching their Instagram account. They are still not verified but are going to continue to strive for that verification.

On Tik Tok there presence is not as known as on Instagram but this comes with the territory because data suggests that not many Puerto Ricans aside from the youth are on this platform. Since the start of 2023 they have made two posts and both have received one like and zero comments. They have gathered 33 followers and will probably strive for more once Tik Tok usage in Puerto Rico rises. It is one of the top platforms in the world but with Puerto Rico being an aging population this has not transcended. In my opinion they should focus on creating exiting content because as a brewing company there are many ways you can get creative and convince consumers to go purchase your product.

On Facebook they have had success at times but recently have seen a decline in interactions with their page and I believe it is because Facebook is a social platform that is on the way out. It is mostly being used by an older population and Ocean Lab looks to target new and young consumers. Here we have to remember that the drinking age in Puerto Rico is 18 which means that companies like Ocean Lab can look to target a younger population than they would in the US. This is why they are more active on Instagram than on Facebook. On Facebook their top post was on February 9, 2023 in which they got 48 likes and 0 comments.

Twitter is a shorter story than the past three platforms as there account has not posted sin June, 2021. Many people have left Twitter even before the purchase by Elon Musk. Also, Twitter might prove to be too much work to keep up with everything and many companies have decided to take a step back and focus on the platforms that are being used the most.

Fun fact Ocean Lab is not just a brewing company they also have their own clothing brand and everything has a unique design and it is very comfortable. Take it from me, I live there and have purchased many things from their online store.
