Meet Daisy
Introduction
My name is Daisy Ettinger. I am 21 years old. I am a Junior in the Digital Media Arts program at Duquesne University. I am taking this class to improve my social media skills and knowledge about how consumers think. My approach to projects is to stay organized and plan what needs to be done first.
A fun fact you didn’t ask for:
I do not have a bellybutton.
What I want from this class
Three things I want to get out of this class is a better understanding of how people on social media think. I also want to learn how to track progress from different types of social media. I think it would also be beneficial to learn how to create projects on different platforms and applications and put to use the skills I have used in previous classes.
A quote I live by:
Tattoos I am getting in remembrance for my grandparents:
How I decided my major
I found out I was interested in graphic design when I was in high school. When I was young I loved to draw and create things and as I got older I was introduced to Photoshop and Illustrator. My technical education teacher in high school noticed I was really into the design aspect of the class and invited me to sign up for the TSA (Technology Students Association) club at our school. I almost did not attend the first meeting because I did not think there would be anything for me in this club. I ended up going and finding out that the club competed in a variety of events such as graphic design, photography, music production, and wood working. There was an event for everyone, at least 40, there were speaking events, races, math events, and project based events. After my first year of joining the TSA club I knew what I wanted to do in college. I enjoyed learning about technology and the different ways it could be used. I felt. like I could express my emotions and convey them to others through my designs. This club allowed me to figure out my career path and helped me continue my journey towards success. I continued to take part in TSA my senior year of high school and was also the club historian. I placed top three in photography my junior and senior year and placed first for music production my senior year.
A song I have on repeat right now:
The reason I smile everyday
I play for the club tennis team at Duquesne and I have played tennis since I was little. My whole family played tennis so I was expected too, but I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I do with the people I play with on the club team. Because of Covid-19 I was unable to participate my freshman year, but just being on the team for a year and a half has given me the best group of friends I could ask for. We have practice together, go to tennis tournaments, have team dinners and parties, and just hang out regularly together. We truly are a big family. I have overcome so much with them and they have given me reasons to smile even in the worst situations. They have helped me so much in ways they couldn’t even imagine.

My life lesson
One of the biggest life lessons I had to learn during this pandemic is that you can not rely on anyone but yourself to be happy. You need to learn to be happy and love yourself rather than putting your faith in friendships and relationships. To make sure I have a healthy relationship with myself I write in a journal everyday and do things that I like to do such as listen to music, draw, make music, play tennis, or workout. I still make time to see friends because as of right now my roommate is studying abroad so I still very much need socialization, but I am trying to get used to living alone so if I need to in the future it won’t bother me as much.
