Tracking Blog Post Through Google Analytics
My Approach:
Firstly, I needed to sign out of Squarespace and copy the link to the Intro to Me blog that I created. I then pasted that link into the website URL section of the Campaign URL Builder tool. Under the campaign source section, I used wyatt-caber because the link should almost always use your name in this format. The most important part of setting up my trackable links came under the campaign medium section. This is where I used LinkedIn for one link and email for the other link. This helped me not only differentiate which link I was going to use but can possibly even help the user that is clicking on the link to see exactly where they are going. I finished these links by including assignment-2 in the campaign name section. After I was done with these steps, I was ready to send these links out.
I started with the link I created for email. I copied it into an email and sent it out to several people. What I quickly learned was that to get more engagement I needed to send a custom message in the email explaining what the users were getting themselves into. Without a personalized message, there is a higher chance the user wouldn’t engage in the link. After I sent that I went on Linkedin and used the other link I created there. I gave a brief message explaining what I was posting, adding hashtags to make the post more enticing to the users that would view it. After I posted that it was time to wait a few days to see the results.
Results:
After waiting a few days to gather statistics, what I discovered on Google Analytics came as a shock to me. I noticed that sharing my blog through email had way more engagement than my LinkedIn. You can see the results in the images posted...
What I learned:
To get more engagement on LinkedIn can be improved by not only building up my profile itself, but I could’ve typed up a few more sentences or even a video explaining what the user was getting ready to click on. I also believe using my other social media profiles that have more followers to promote my LinkedIn post could’ve definitely raised engagement.
