Analytics of My Intro Blog — Noah Fries

My Approach

My approach to promoting my introduction blog was to create two different trackable links — one for email and one to post on my LinkedIn. Through creating these trackable links, I would then be able to determine how many users actually visited my blog and determine their engagement on my site. I was very proud of my introduction blog and wanted to show my closest friends, so I sent out an email to all of them with the “email” trackable link. I ended up sending the link to 13 individuals. Then, I created my first post on LinkedIn — with my account being small, and only having 20 connections — to see how much engagement I could achieve through LinkedIn as well.

My Data

My Results

Whenever I logged in to Google Analytics days later, I quickly realized that I had made a mistake somewhere. I had only sent the email to 13 individuals, but I had 19 total users under my “email” trackable link. After checking my LinkedIn post, I realized that I had accidentally used my “email” trackable link for my LinkedIn post, instead of utilizing my “linkedin” trackable link. Because of this, I am unable to tell exactly how many people used my “email” link through the actual email or through the LinkedIn post. At most, I would have 13 users through my email link and 6 users through my LinkedIn post, but that would only be if every one of my friends clicked on the link that I emailed them. Therefore, I am unable to tell exactly which platform did better statistically, but my assumption would be that the email generated more users and engagement than my LinkedIn post, with those statistics from LinkedIn itself shown below (I also received 5 engagements on LinkedIn in the form of likes on my post) .

My Analysis

As I mentioned earlier, I’m unable to do as much statistical analysis as I would like to since I put the wrong link on my LinkedIn post. However, I am able to note some things that I could optimize and do better the next time I have to do something like this. Almost everyone I talked to about my intro blog loved the way it looked and thought that it was very informative about myself and my goals for the future. There are certain things I can improve on, though; I feel that my aesthetics can be improved and I can make my website more convenient to use. Specifically regarding my LinkedIn post, I should’ve used hashtags in my post in order to try to reach more users — something that I will always do from this point forward. This assignment and this experience has taught me how important it is to be precise in every step of the endeavor and also to do more in terms of hashtags to gather more engagement in the future.
