Meet Gisela

Introduction

Hi! My name is Gisela and I’m a first-year Sports Information & Media major here at Duquesne. I chose to attend this university primarily due to its proximity to such a vibrant city. While I am from Frederick, MD, that doesn’t stop me from being a huge Steelers fan and very passionate about football in general. After completing my undergrad, I aim to pursue a graduate degree in public relations/advertising and eventually go on to work in the NFL. I am taking this class to become more familiar with the skills needed to implement effective social media strategies in the workplace.

Academic Approach


In terms of my academic tasks, I have discovered that staying organized by the means of a planner is extremely beneficial for me. Throughout the previous semester, I consistently employed this method to keep track of my assignments and projects, and intend to continue utilizing it in the upcoming semesters.

Class Goals

Upon the completion of this course, my goal is to gain a comprehensive understanding of various aspects, such as generating brand recognition, formulating an effective content creation strategy, and learning how to increase customer value.

About Me

Aside from football, I also find enjoyment in watching golf and hockey. The reason behind my unwavering support for Pittsburgh teams is related to my father, a native of PA, whose own enthusiasm for these teams wore off on me. I also have relatives residing in the surrounding areas, further strengthening my connection to the region and its sports teams. I have an older sister who attends Duquesne as well and is in her third year as a nursing student. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym and listening to music/watching TV. Among my favorite artists include SZA, Don Toliver, Summer Walker, and Frank Ocean. My favorite TV shows are The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Stranger Things.

Takeaways from 2023

In 2023, I experienced a significant realization that had a profound impact on me. It became apparent that I needed to cultivate a stronger sense of gratitude for the individuals who played a significant role in my life. Additionally, I learned the importance of finding contentment in the present moment and appreciating the blessings and opportunities that surround me. However, I also understood that while contentment is important, it should not hinder me from working towards my ambitions for the future. I have learned that it is crucial to strike a balance between being satisfied with the present and having the drive to pursue personal growth and progress. This realization served as a guiding principle for me throughout the year, shaping my mindset and influencing my actions.

All About Mobile Advertising: Mobile advertising is the universal term used to describe various types of promotional content that is specifically designed and displayed on mobile devices. This form of advertising can encompass a wide range of formats, including banner and video ads, and can be encountered while downloading applications. It serves as a valuable marketing strategy that allows marketers to effectively connect with audiences through their mobile devices. With the increasing dependence of consumers on mobile devices to cater to their daily necessities, there has been a significant shift in recent years as they have expanded the scope of their device usage beyond communication.

A Look Into the NHL’s Social Media Platforms: The NHL already has an active presence on social media and by regularly posting engaging content, the league not only caters to devoted fans but also makes it easy for followers to stay updated on games and scores across the league. The content shared on their platforms provides a clear and understandable overview of the gameplay, and they use all their social media accounts to promote games and sponsorships, keeping fans informed and excited for what's to come. By creating more interactive content across different platforms, the league is responding to the desires of its audience.

How is Mobile Engagement used in the Mobile World? Like mobile advertising, mobile engagement is widely used among companies to provide unique brand experiences, achieve organizational objectives, convey important information, and establish lasting connections with customers. The significance of user engagement within a mobile application is crucial, encompassing various aspects such as user interaction with messages and methods for assessing their level of engagement. In the current competitive environment, brands are continuously competing for attention and seeking to engage their target audiences effectively on mobile devices.

What I Have Learned From My Work:

Through this course and digital marketing exploration, I have gained a deep understanding of its workings and importance in today's social media world. It has been useful to see how data on user behavior can provide valuable insights into online interactions. With this knowledge, I have made well-informed decisions that shape marketing strategies and product offerings to better connect with a target audience. Moreover, I have learned how to assess a campaign's effectiveness and identify trends that impact consumer behavior. As someone who is considering pursuing a career in marketing and/or social media, this experience has given me even more interest in working in this field.
