Meet Olivia Knott

Introduction

Hi, I am Olivia Knott! I am a current senior graduating in the spring of 2024. I am in the business school studying Management and Marketing. I am taking this class because I have an interest in digital media and would love to work with it in my career someday!

When it comes to my approach to projects, I try to be a leader. I love taking charge in a project but I also really enjoy working collaboratively. I put in my own input just as much as I hear out other perspectives as well! I always try to strategically plan for projects but taking notes, asking questions, and making sure I am on top of deadlines.

Fun facts about me

  1. I am from Baltimore, Maryland but I would love to stay in Pittsburgh after graduation.

  2. I have had the ability to meet two presidents in my lifetime.

  3. I am apart of a sorority at Duquesne, which I love!

  4. When it is warm out, I like to play tennis!

  5. I hope to have a job one day that has something to do with digital marketing, public relations, or any kind of communications work.

Three things I want to get out of the semester…

  1. I want to be able to practice writing in digital media. I enjoy writing, but I want to become better at writing on digital platforms. The language is different when looking at media platforms than it is when writing a research paper. i want to be able to adopt that language and understand how to create well-written work on various digital platforms.

  2. I want to gain more knowledge on SEOs because they play such a huge role in digital marketing. I have a baseline knowledge about SEOs but I find them so fascinating and want to be able to learn more about them. I enjoy digital marketing and I know SEO can play a role in this job. With this, I could see myself working with SEOs in a job one day, so I want to be able to have as much knowledge as I can on them.

  3. As I mentioned, I find digital marketing to be one of my interests. I would to be able to understand what makes a digital marketing campaign successful. I think knowing all the different aspects of digital marketing and how these measures can create success. With this, also being able to know the right decisions to make. Overall, I am really excited for this course and I love learning about strategy and especially for digital marketing and social media.

One thing I learned in 2023…

I learned that I should practice accepting the unknown. Being a senior, i have been overwhelmed with classes, graduating, finding a job, and the thought of which city I will end up in. All of these thoughts contribute to the unknown for me, and it is unsettling to me. I have been trying to practice making peace with the unknown because it is inevitable and I can’t control it. So going into 2024, I am trying to not let worrisome thoughts take over when it comes to the unknown. Whatever happens, everything will work itself out and be okay! :)

What I learned this semester

I learned what SEOs are able to provide. They help to resole a user’s needs. We Need to Master SEO by thinking of Both Humans and Machines. But mostly humans. Also the importance of linking correctly, using keywords, and trying to tag.bI also learned what a website copywriter is able to do and how the work corresponds with SEO. Copywriter is important for the identification of high value words when searching. It is also essential for writing the page title, page meta description, URL structure, headline copy, body copy, copy for text links, and alt-text image descriptions.

LinkedIn optimization is another important idea I learned. There is a great importance behind being able to build a personal brand whether no matter what phase you are in with your professional journey. A lot of the simple tips was able to help me optimize my LinkedIn. Practices like customizing my URL, adding an action-based headline, adding rich media, and utilizing recommendations and endoresments. All of these practices were simple but were able to clean up my LinkedIn. Now I feel confident in the platform I have and I feel it will help support me beyond graduation.
