Meet Ben Prantl
My name is Ben Prantl, and I am a sophomore sports information and media major. I’m taking the class as a requirement to graduate, but I am also interested in better understanding PR. I really like doing PR in regards to sports. I’ve been blessed enough to be able to do it for Duquesne’s club hockey team, as well as for Duquesne Athletics, where I covered the Volleyball team during its 2023 season. While we might focus more on social media and marketing in this class, PR uses these as ways to get the message out. Sports teams have social media pages, and the good ones are very active on them. using them as a way to catch random scrollers, and connect better with existing fans.
Typically I attempt to be thorough with my projects in terms of consistent styling and proper grammar. Attention to detail is something I’ve gained through my summer job: landscaping. The ability to see things that are wrong better than the average passerby is a good trait to have. While I’m far from the most creative or artsy, I still work hard to make my work look as professional as possible, which includes doing things properly and consistently.
I’m hoping to get a better understanding of PR out of this class, as I’ve interned with the sports information department at Duquesne, and I love the work of doing PR essentially for the school’s athletics. I really want to bring those skills I developed in 2023 into 2024 and improve at my work, but also develop more marketable skills for future employment. I also want to get a better understanding of using social media, as sports teams now try to use it to better market their teams in pretty unprecedented ways, and a good understanding of how to do it well would be very helpful in both finding a job, but also in doing it well. I also want to gain skills working online, for more of the aforementioned career goals.

While I’ve been blessed to have been published for sports, not a lot of people know that I am a published haiku author. Maybe it’s because the book spelled my name “Pranti” instead of “Prantl” haha. I’m also an avid sports fan, if you hadn’t guessed by my mentioning it in every other sentence I write.
