Meet Mackenzie Henke
Hi! My name is Mackenzie, I am currently in my senior year at Duquesne, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Sociology. I am taking this class to get an insight into working with social media/ digital marketing, as it is something I am interested in and possibly looking to get a career in once I graduate.
Fun Facts About Me: 1) I am from Michigan 2) I am a big sports fan 3) I enjoy spending time with family/friends in my free time
3 Things I Would Like to Get Out of Class: 1) How to analyze social media content to ensure best results 2) Learn about jobs in the social media/digital marketing world 3) Obtain information to help me in my future career (showcasing class work, adding to portfolio, etc.)
I took this class as it was a required class, but I think it will be very helpful towards my career and will provide valuable information that will be necessary; as well as helpful in creating a portfolio, etc.
Something I Learned in 2023: As I started a Public Relations internship last semester, I learned more about the field as a whole; as well as how to apply what I have learned throughout classes to an actual job- I plan to continue to apply this knowledge to prepare me for life after graduation. I also learned to practice patience, as things usually end up working out; sometimes better than you may have expected!
2 Things I Learned About My Work From Digital Analytics
1) One thing I learned throughout conducting my work through digital analytics is that certain platforms have a much higher engagement rate than others. When completing the P2 group project, I was required to post on various social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter (X), Facebook) and keep track of the insights and data that each post produced. I learned that my initial thoughts regarding certain social media platforms had been proven wrong, as X was shown to be the platform with the most engagement and reach. This knowledge taught me that embedding links and posting polls (content that the audience can engage with) will provide with the most beneficial results. This information will help me in the future when conducting digital posts and obtaining better results.
2) The second thing I learned while conducting my work through digital analytics is the importance of sharing blog posts. Whether it be through SMS, email, social media, etc. I was able to see drastic changes in the page views, exit/bounce rates, etc. throughout my blog posts as the year went on and I got better at promoting them. Whether it be sharing with family/friends through SMS, posting the article on LinkedIn, or posting on my own personal social media pages; I learned that people are willing to engage with the content and are more interested than most of us think. As I learned to analyze the data (through Google Analytics and Squarespace) I learned how essential it is to promote posts to obtain the best results. This gave me the most information to work with, especially when it came to presenting the group project to the class.
