Meet Giulia LaForgia

Hi, I’m Giulia!

I’m a senior here at Duquesne University, studying Integrated Marketing Communication. During my final semester, I decided to take this class because I have a huge passion for social media and its ability to connect, inspire, and drive meaningful engagement.

Over the past three years, I’ve gained hands-on experience through internships in marketing and social media with companies like State Farm, ArtsQuest, and St. Luke’s Sports Medicine. I’ve had some of the best experiences of my whole life during my internships, like being on the field for the Devonta Smith Celebrity Softball game (I got to meet a bunch of Eagles players!) or being in the pit with the media during Musikfest (the picture above is from the day pf the Big Time Rush concert!). Additionally, I’ve helped manage the social media accounts for Duquesne Admissions and Pi Sigma Epsilon, helping to grow their online presence and connect with key audiences. Currently, I work as a freelance content creator for St. Luke’s Sports Medicine and Tier One Performance, where I focus on creating engaging, impactful content to support their brand goals.

My approach to school is rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and a strong drive to apply what I learn in the classroom to real-world situations. I strive to bring a creative and strategic mindset to every project, aiming not only to meet expectations but to exceed them. I’m excited to leverage this class to continue building my skills and to explore innovative ways to engage audiences in the ever-evolving world of social media.

People are going to judge you anyway, so you might as well do what you want.
— Taylor Swift

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Taylor Swift. This quote deeply resonates with me because, as someone who has been influenced by the weight of others' opinions, it serves as a grounding reminder. It’s reassuring to know that even someone as iconic and successful as Taylor Swift faces these struggles. Her words inspire me every day to live authentically, surround myself with people who uplift rather than judge, and pursue the things that genuinely bring me joy.

No one asked, but…

I’m an avid reader! In 2024 alone, I read almost 60 books. From a young age, my mom (a high school English teacher) instilled the love of reading into me. Some of my favorite books of all time are Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. In fact, one of my bucket list items for 2025 is getting a joint Daisy Jones/Throne of Glass tattoo. My personal favorite genre is fantasy, but I also read a lot of mystery, contemporary, and romance. There is nothing that I love to do more than curl up on my couch, put on a record, make myself a cup of tea, and read for hours on end.

What do I hope to get out of this class?

  • Strategy and idea generation is definitely an area that I can improve. I want to strengthen my ability to craft effective social media strategies that align with brand goals and drive audience engagement.

  • While I have some knowledge of SEO, it’s not nearly enough. I want to gain a strong understanding of SEO best practices to optimize content for search engines and increase online visibility.

  • Collaboration and teamwork can serve as a basis for many professional projects. I want to continue to learn how to work seamlessly with others, exchange ideas, and co-create innovative content for digital platforms.

Here’s What I Learned In 2024:

2024 was certainly a journey of self-love and discovery for me, and I’m hoping to keep this momentum going in 2025. I had two incredible internships that provided me with some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I also met and grew closer to the best friends I have ever had, all while becoming a healthier, more well-rounded version of myself, both mentally and physically. Of course, growth also meant letting go, releasing things that were toxic or no longer serving me for the better. The biggest lesson I’ve taken away is that good things take time, and it's essential to clear space for them by letting go of what holds you back. No matter how dark things may feel, it’s always possible to move on and move up. Good things are always on the other side.
