Meet Wyatt VanDyke
Introduction:
Hello! My name is Wyatt VanDyke and I’m a senior at Duquesne, originally from right outside of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am majoring in sports media and information with a minor in sociology, and I’m taking this course as part of the core requirements for my sports media major. When it comes to my approach for school/work products, I try to stay ahead of everything as best I can and ask questions where needed to make sure I come out with the best-intended result possible!
A Fun Fact:
I’m pretty talented when it comes to making latte art! I’ve spent 5 years working in coffee and over the course of time can draw a pretty solid stack of hearts in milk foam.
Three Things I Hope to Learn:
1) An understanding of how to use social media to effectively communicate ideas or concepts to a larger audience.
2) How to use, and where to look for channels to track how effective my messaging is across a multitude of platforms.
3) I’d like to learn about how digital marketing differs from more traditional means of marketing, and what current trends in marketing are like.
Something I Learned In 2023:
I learned over the course of the year that it’s alright to ask for help when necessary! There’s no downside to acknowledging something might be a little bit more than what you can handle at a given moment.
Attached Work From This Semester:
2 Things I Learned During Class
I learned that I’m not all that great at working with content creation websites, but I’m still learning the skills necessary to get better at it. Some of the concepts of Squarespace were a little tough to grasp for me, but I figured it out by the end of the semester!
Tracking information is extremely valuable. The data provided in content viewership is both not that tough to track, but simultaneously full of information. Not only can you tell what brings in viewers, but also what pushes them away. This will be helpful in my professional career as I figure out what form of information displays best catch the attention of others, and what is too much for individuals to gather at once and can be overwhelming.
