Meet Christian Glass

Senior at Duquesne University Studying IMC

Hello! And welcome to my blog. I’m a senior at Duquesne University studying Integrated Marketing Communication with a minor in Psychology. I am taking this class to better hone my skills in digital marketing and social media platforms. I often enjoy taking a creative approach to projects and my coursework. I enjoy social media marketing and with that realize that there can be an array of different creative solutions to a problem. One thing you should know about me is, I graduate in May and am currently looking for a job in social media management. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn

Three things I would like to get out of this class are:

  • I’d love to learn how to use different platforms and programs I’m unfamiliar with (Squarespace, Google analytics, etc.)

  • I’d love to better hone my social media management from a brand perspective. I have experience from previous internships and jobs, but I’d love to learn more.

  • I’d love to learn the best optimization practices; long term I’d love to own my own brand at some point and website optimization is key to being successful.

A quote that I like to draw inspiration from is:

Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Something you should know about me:

Something readers should know about me is, I’m always ready for the next adventure. I love to travel and road trip in my free time I love trying out new things. I often take hobbies as new adventures, so as one of my New Year’s Resolutions, I am attempting to learn the piano in my free time.

What I learned last year:

Last year, I learned through work experience that it is never too late to change your path. Coming into my senior year I was still unsure of what I wanted to do after graduation and it wasn’t until my recent position at Allervision Tech as a Marketing Associate and Content Creator, that I realized social media marketing is the track I want to be on. Through my school experience, I learned that it never hurts to ask. It really is an age-old saying that I have a hard time grasping, but when I do it opens up a world of possibilities.

Work Examples:

Two things I learned about my work from digital analytics:

The first is optimizing the message for the platform. Having a great message or mission doesn’t get you very far, you need to know the ins and outs of every platform you’re working with. Minor differences like using hashtags or changing the first three seconds of a video can make or break a viral post. Each platform has its own traits and algorithms. The only way to learn is to get as much experience as possible with each.

The second thing I learned was to always be adapting. This goes hand-in-hand with my last point, but just because a post failed doesn’t mean it was a bad post. A post can fail for any reason, and sometimes it just needs a bit of tweaking before it reaches the audience it intends. The best way to succeed is to always adapt and keep an open mind. There is no perfect formula for social media marketing, and the best way to succeed is to try.
