Tracking My Blog
As a class last week, we decided to put our blog promotion strategy to the test. I shared my article via email and Facebook to see which channel would bring in more readers—and more importantly, which would keep them engaged. Using Google Analytics, I closely monitored the results. Here’s how it went!
How I Promoted the Blog
For the Facebook URL, I created a story on my Facebook account, asking my friends to check out my new blog. I also encouraged them to share it with as many people as possible. To make the story eye-catching, I used a specific font and an image designed to grab attention. On the other hand, my approach to email was different. I sent an email to my friends with a catchy subject line and a short teaser of the blog to spark their interest.
What the Data Showed
· Facebook brought in more visitors than email—175 people clicked the link compared to only 19 via email.
· Facebook users also stayed on the page longer and explored other parts of the site. I believe this happened because my target audience consists of people my age, who primarily use social media rather than email for casual communication.
· Even though Facebook had a higher engagement rate, neither platform generated a significant level of engagement overall.
Key Takeaways & Optimization Strategy
1. Optimize for Higher Engagement on Facebook and Email
I plan to create more interactive content by incorporating short teaser videos with less text and more visuals.
