Promotion and Tracking

Alexandra Javorsky

To analyze the promotion and tracking for my blog post I decided to choose email and LinkedIn. I chose to share via LinkedIn as opposed to Facebook because I do not have my own account and my blog gives a good overview of me as a person which could attract future employers. Through this exercise I familiarized myself with how to make trackable links and gained a better understanding of the Google Analytics platform.

Overall, my performance in this was extremely underwhelming. I sent my link via email and it received five impressions. This means that everyone I sent my link to opened and viewed the page, which is a good sign. However, these were sent to friends and family members that did not gain much information from my post, mostly because they already know most things about me and my aspirations. Unfortunately, I was unable to receive any traction from my LinkedIn. This is likely due to the fact that I do not have many connections on the platform. It is clear that email was the more successful platform, in regards to both engagement and time. This is due to the fact that I was sending the link directly to people I know who would view the site. For next time, I plan to send the link to more contacts in order to increase engagement and interactions with my blog post. Hopefully, by the next time I will also have more connections on LinkedIn and will actually receive activity. In reflection, this activity really showed me the importance of networking. Due to the fact that I lack personal email contacts as well as LinkedIn followers I was not able to receive valuable data that would help me promote my blog post. I do feel however that using this time exploring Google Analytics gave me a better understanding of the platform as a whole, its uses, and its purposes. Finally, this assignment was also helpful in learning the process of making and using trackable links.
