Tracking my Links
— Tolomé Mazariegos
In order to promote my introduction blog, I created two trackable links to it. One was sent through email, and the other one was posted to LinkedIn. I shared a simple message with both links, hoping to peak people’s interest but not be too pushy about it. I sent the email to family members and friends, and I made the LinkedIn post the same day. I ended up getting 9 total users to click the link through the email I sent, and 6 viewers through the LinkedIn post. I had one returning user for both. One thing that I thought was strange was that I had an average engagement time per active user of 27 seconds for the email link, but an average of 0 seconds for the LinkedIn one. I also noticed how the website tells the user the percentage of interaction that they have contributed to the project as a whole, and I thought this was interesting. The SMS link is included in the screenshot below since we did that first.
I thought my promotion went fairly well, and I was happy with the results. It was good practice to use different means to share my blog, and then to compare the results between the two. If I did this on a wider scale, I could use it to help determine what channel got me the most interactions.
Next time, I will try to increase the amounts of respondents by sending the email and posting at a more common time of day. I’m not sure if this would make much of a difference, but I have heard that it can. I could also add pictures to the post and experiment with hashtags.
