Blog Analytics and Tracking

Natalie Mason

I used two mediums to distribute my blog post, one via email and the other a Facebook story post.

Why I chose Email and Facebook story:

Firstly, I chose to email my blog post because I know a good amount of people who check their emails regularly. I chose to email some of my family members, people in my classes, and also some of my sorority sisters. I initially thought that sending my blog link via email was risky because I know that emails tend to get lost, as many people have hundreds of emails coming in a day. Secondly, I chose to distribute my blog on my Facebook story. I uploaded the same picture I used on my blog and shortened the URL to “Meet Natalie Mason.” I decided to shorten the link because the full link almost looked like a scam, LOL! I knew that some of my friends and family would see my story and think I got hacked with a long link that they did not recognize. Shortening the link made the story post look more professional and safe to click on, resulting in more people taking the time to click on the link.

Analyzing my results…

Unfortunately, my results are skewed because my mother shared my email URL to her Facebook instead of sharing the Facebook URL I made…. and I didn’t have the heart to tell her to delete it! Nonetheless, I know that these two URLs would be swapped, with Facebook getting more users than email. Before I distributed these URLs, I knew that Facebook would gain more traction simply because I have more friends on there than I did on email. Facebook ended up having more engagement and time on the site. I conclude that this is because I have friends on Facebook that I don’t keep in contact with, and they wanted to see what I was up to. Also, I don’t post much on Facebook, so when I do, more people are likely to check out what I am posting.
