Meet Daymond Kovaly
Hello! My name is Daymond Kovaly, I am currently a junior with a major in Sports Information and Media and a minor in Digital Media Arts. I am taking this class because A) It's required and B) it seems fun and I feel like the social media field is something I am most comfortable with. My approach to school work is the mindset of getting it done right. Sometimes I will procrastinate a bit but in the end, I don't care if I submit the assignment 5 minutes before it is due, there are no extra points for being the first one done, I just want to be confident that my work will get a good score.
One thing you definitely didn’t ask but will be known is I am a huge Penguins fan. I feel confident enough to proclaim myself as the biggest Pens fan. Both my grandpa and dad are Penguins fans so my whole childhood I can remember always wanting to watch the games and play as the Penguins on video games and just never stop watching and learning them. My favorite trip by far was the Winter Classic in Boston last year to watch the Penguins play the Bruins. It was just such an incredible experience, the whole weekend was so much fun.
3 things I'd like to get out of class

3 things I'd like to get out of class -

I have fallen in love with mascotting in sports, so with that comes the social media game. I would like to further my knowledge on how to effectively use social media to my advantage and grow an audience
-
What the future of social media holds and how to prepare for it or adapt on the fly. Does the introduction of Threads open up the possibility of anyone making an app? Will there be a million more social apps to choose from?

How social media has changed the landscape of marketing as a whole and how to set myself apart from others
In 2023 I learned to slow down and be in the moment, not look forward too much and have fun with the journey. I was an intern with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and I often found myself feeling competitive and looking for my next move. Yes, that is not the worst thing ever, but I wanted to slow down and take in all the knowledge and appreciate where I am at in life. They have been so fantastic to me and I wanted to think back to when I was young and wanted to be in Pittsburgh, and now here I am, building up to the life I want to live.
My Work
What I learned This Semester
Through the spring semester, I feel I have gained valuable knowledge and skills that are helpful to my career. I immediately found myself using Google Analytics for a project with the Riverhounds after our class on building links and tracking data. I also found myself diving into my LinkedIn and making my page look professional so I could put my best foot forward. This class has helped me accelerate my skills in building landing pages and publishing blogs and content on websites as well as collaborating with a team on a post schedule. I learned many enriching skills that I will look back on and feel proud that this class kickstarted my path and put me ahead of other possible candidates.
