Meet Austin Hansen

About Myself…

I am a second-year student at Duquesne University in the McAnulty College School of Liberal Arts.

Currently, I am on track to graduate in the Spring of 2027 with two majors: Sports Information and Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, and a minor in Digital Media Arts. Additionally, I continuously remain on the Dean’s List.

My Academic Goals/Strategy

As a student, I always try my hardest to maximize my abilities by taking various opportunities to allow myself to be the greatest version of myself. Stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging limits allows me to learn more and apply myself as one who works hard and works often!

Don’t limit your challenges, challenge your limits
— Jerry Dunn

I have enjoyed the ability to put the learning into practice, such as Sports Media Practices, where I produced and was an expert in a season preview show for an imaginary professional football team. Watch it here!

What I would like to gain from Social Media & Digital Marketing?

  1. To gain practical experience in working with Social Media through class assignments such as this one.

  2. Learn how to master various applications such as Squarespace, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and more to give me an edge over others who desire to work in a similar field.

  3. Strengthen my abilities and learn new strategies to pursue and persuade an audience.

My Campus Involvement

  • Serving as an Orientation Chair is one of Duquesne’s largest student-operated organizations allows me to welcome new students into the Duquesne family. Working as an Orientation Entertainment Chair for the New Student Orientation I am in charge of planning and organizing interesting activities that strengthen bonds, facilitate changes, and infuse joy into the Orientation experience.

Being created "for students, by students," Duquesne's orientation program enables us to comprehend and cater to the interests and needs of new first-year, commuter, transfer, and graduate students. Allowing all individual’s to be recognized in the new atmosphere.

My goal as Entertainment Chair is to ensure that every event I organize captures the lively atmosphere of our campus and gives incoming students a chance to make lifelong friends and feel comfortable embarking on this new journey.

  • In the Spring of 2024, I was initiated into the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter at Duquesne University. This experience allowed me to find the brotherhood I was searching for here at Duquesne.

In my time I have made friends that will last a lifetime and experience many events with friends. The brotherhood that has profoundly shaped my college experience and personal growth allowing me to grow relationships, teamwork, and service.

Currently, I serve as the Chronicler, meaning I am in charge of running all of our social media profiles, and continuing connections with other chapters and members.

  • One of the most fulfilling aspects of my undergraduate time has been working as a staff writer in the sports department for Duquesne’s student newspaper The Duquesne Duke. It has given me the opportunity to share my love of storytelling, and my passion for sports, and further my career goals.

I have covered a broad spectrum of athletic events such as Men’s and Women’s Basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Personal Life

In my personal life, I often spend time with the people that I care about the most: my friends and family. Connecting within relationships is my purpose, as I love being a part of something with connections and larger than myself.

My family’s yearly traditions, such as going on vacation to our relatives in Florida, are memories I never forget. Spending time with my parents, sisters, and brother is something I always look forward to. Exploring new places and nature has always made me feel fulfilled.

You can always find me supporting my favorite sports teams, like the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Pittsburgh North Shore. Additionally, concerts have become a new hobby of mine my favorite have been seeing my favorite artists Drake last year and Kenny Chesney over the summer.

I have played sports my entire life, and now, in college, I strive to continue that competitive edge in me. A vital hobby for myself is my physical health I am active or in the gym almost daily, and this year, I have begun training for the Pittsburgh Marathon, this is a great milestone that I look forward to completing as I continue to challenge myself.

I try my best to capture memories by taking pictures whenever I can!

Moving forward in the New Year!

In the New Year, I want to work for a purpose and become more goal-oriented rather than continuing my life journey without distinct goals. This past year, I often found myself continuing forward without celebrating my success. When I have had moments similar to this, I appreciate my life to a greater extent. Life is a beautiful gift that we all get to experience, and this year, I want to appreciate that gift more than I have before. Taking time to appreciate my work and be proud of what I do is the ultimate goal of this New Year.

Additionally, I want to challenge myself to return to my competitive mentality and push myself for things greater than myself. Being an athlete has been a cornerstone of my life, and this year, I am running in the Pittsburgh Marathon.

Continuing to better myself in many aspects through celebrating individual success while appreciating the collectiveness in my relationships, I think I will greater my life physically and mentally.
