★Meet Camryn Brown★
Hello!
Oh hey! I’m Camryn! I’m a sophomore public relations and advertising major here at Duquesne! I’m taking this class to develop a better understanding of social media marketing. As a public relations major, social media is going to be a huge part of my future profession, so the more I can learn the better! My approach to projects and school work usually centers around efficiency. I’m a big fan of a schedule and a to-do list!
“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!”
Something you should know about me?
I love the city of Chicago! I’m a big fan of the shows Shameless and The Bear, so over the summer, a friend and I decided to make the eight-hour road trip to visit some filming locations from both shows! Once I was there, I almost immediately decided that that’s where I’d live someday. It’s such a beautiful city with so many fun things to do. I also loved taking the “L” (Chicago’s train system) for some reason.
Here’s what I’m hoping to get out of this class:
A better understanding of social media marketing!
A better understanding of trends and algorithms and how I can use them to my advantage!
Proficiency in tools that I can eventually use in my professional life!
What I learned in 2024…

In 2024, I learned how important my family is to me. I feel like it’s kind of a boring answer, but honestly, before this year, I had really taken them for granted. After a falling out with my high school friend group, I ended up spending a lot of time with my cousins, which actually made for an amazing summer!

For the above article, I had to create trackable URLs and track this blog on Google Analytics.
For this article I had to create a social media audit for Dove which gave me a great understanding of their social media presence!
This article was for our group project. I wrote a commentary piece about AI on social media!
2 things I learned This semester
Well for one, I learned how difficult it can be to properly report analytics for things! Google Analytics definitely gave me a run for my money, but I eventually ended up figuring it out. I went through a lot of trial and error with it. It’s not my favorite part of the process, but I’d call it a necessary evil. I definitely wouldn’t say that I’m an expert now, but I have a better idea of how and when to use it, which will be super beneficial in the future.
I also learned about how tricky group work can be. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but it was seriously difficult to get everything done properly and on time. That’s not to say that my group didn’t do their work. They absolutely did. However, we’re all busy college students who need to collaborate, and finding time for that collaboration was super tricky. We ended up getting everything done, and doing it well, but in the future (both for school and work), I’ll be sure to check in with the people I’m working with earlier and more often.
