Meet Isaiah Summerlin

Hello everyone, my name is Isaiah Summerlin. I am a sophomore here at Duquesne and am majoring in Sports Information and Media. I am taking this class this year for credit requirements but at the same time I believe that it will help me better my understanding of the depths of social media and how it continues to affect our lives every day. Being a SIM major really correlates to this class because you are going to want to know how to manage social media as a Sports Info director at some type of school down the line. My main goal is to be an Agent for athletes down the line so I can better not only them as athletes but as people for their communities.

We were asked about a favorite quote and one that came to mind is really how I tend to view my life every day.  “Work hard in silence, let success be your noise.” - Frank Ocean. I said this quote because first off Frank Ocean is one of my favorite artists to listen to. Secondly, I take life one step at a time but knowing that I have an end goal to get to will always be in the back of my mind. I am calm and collected throughout most of the success that I have achieved in my life, and I always keep it under control, so I never get to ahead of myself.

One thing people don’t know about me is that I play football here at Duquesne. It has been one of the greatest things to adapt to in my life. College Football changes every year, but I have a team and a brotherhood that I can always fall back on. Being able to live with my teammates or go into a workout or doing random things throughout the week with each other really keeps me in that calm state to where I don’t have to worry about much. We are all one big family, and I know that doesn’t just help me as a person but everyone in the Lockeroom as well

Three things I would like to get out of this class:

  1. The SEO techniques and how to optimize the content I post on my platforms to get more people to view the things I post.

  1. Understanding the analytics behind social media always popped up to me.

  1. Tracking my success on social media would be cool. To see how my online posts are doing and seeing the growth I can make throughout my time on social media.

One thing I learned in 2024 that I should bring over into the new year is that I should show the most love to the people who show me the most love. Being myself in every situation that I am put into.
