Meet Brooke Massaro
Hello everyone, welcome to my blog! I’m Brooke Massaro, a junior Journalism, Advertising/Public Relations, and Pre-Law student. I decided to take this class not only because I am required to for my major, but because I am extremely interested in social media content creation and management. I currently run social media accounts for Pi Sigma Epsilon, a professional fraternity on campus, so I would love to learn the best practices to make my accounts the best it can be. In turn, I hope to be able to use these skills in my professional life beyond college. I like to approach group projects with lots of organization. I have been described as a natural leader (a nicer way to say bossy, perhaps?), so I want to assure the work is evenly distributed and everyone is comfortable doing their share.

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist. ”
This quote by Oscar Wilde is particularly inspiring to me because often times, I get caught up in the moment rather than just enjoying it. It’s so easy to get in your own head, to be thinking about a million other things rather than being present.
Something readers should know about me but didn’t ask…..
I am an avid reader! As a child, I would devour books, sometimes reading multiple in a day. For me, reading is the ultimate relaxation. Turning my brain off and letting a book envelop me in it’s grasp is one of the simple pleasures of my life. My most astonishing reading feat was reading all 7 Harry Potter books in 6 months when I was in the fourth grade. Imagine a ten-year-old lugging around 500 page books in her backpack, and pulling them out at any spare moment. Pictured is my favorite summer read, some favorite book quotes, as well as my first tattoo, an open book symbolizing my love of reading.

What I hope to get out of this class:
-
Creating original ideas for social media content and has always been a struggle for me, so I would like to learn how to hone my creativity in this class.
-
Although I have done various group projects over my years of school, but I have not done one where social media is involved. This class will be a great opportunity to see what it looks like when a team crafts social media posts collectively.
-
This semester is a busy one for me, but I value this class and what it has to offer me. I want to make sure I dedicate what is needed to this class for myself and fellow group members.
2024 → 2025
One thing I learned in 2024 is the value of listening to your inner self and trusting it. I made a lot of big life changes and choices in 2024, and it is some of the scariest things I have ever done. However, making those choices have led me to feel like I am my most true self. If January 2024 Brooke saw January 2025 Brooke, she would not be able to believe her eyes. The experiences that I went through in 2024 showed me that I am strong, capable, independent, smart, and brave, and those are the qualities that I hope to take into 2025. I want to use what I have learned over the past year to grow into the best version of myself professionally, socially, mentally, and personally.
Semester in Review
Hello everyone, this is Brooke as of May 2025! It has been a great semester, and I’ve enjoyed the assignments for this class immensely. Here are all of the posts I have written for this class if you would like to browse:

2 Things I Have Learned About My Work from Digital Analytics
I have very much enjoyed taking this class this semester! I feel as though I built off from preexisting knowledge I had, as well as learn about aspects of social media and digital marketing that I had not known previously.
One of the things that I learned throughout the semester is the about the creation and importance of trackable links. Not only did I have no idea that you could make a trackable link, but how vital they are to tracking how well a post does. Learning how to use Google UTM builder and Google Analytics was an aspect of this course I will take with me into my career field. It was especially helpful in the group project, when I was able to see how well my post did, as well as how all of my group members’ posts did. Although it was temperamental at times, I am glad I have a base knowledge of it that I can carry with me after this course.

Another thing about digital marketing that I learned through my work in this class is the importance of captions. Not only is having a caption important, but having the right caption is just as key. It should not be an afterthought or just words put on a post, they should have a reason and meaning behind them. For example, my posts on the P2 accounts had similar captions, and the engagement was not very high. Choosing my captions more carefully is something I will strive for next time I do an assignment of this nature, or use this skill in my future career.
