Meet Brynn Herncane♥

Hello!

My name is Brynn Herncane; I am a sophomore here at Duquesne University! I am majoring in Public Relations and Advertising and minoring in Multiplatform Journalism. I am a recent transfer student, transferring from Robert Morris University. I am taking this class to fulfill my course requirements, better my knowledge of how I can utilize social media and digital marketing in my career, and broaden my skills on the different platforms we will learn to use in this course. My approach to projects for school is organized and direct.

“Expectations aren't a burden. They're a privilege. Because it could be worse. No one could expect anything at all”.  - Lebron James

Three Things I Want to Learn in This Course

  1. I want to learn how to create and utilize content on different social platforms. Seeing what audience is best for each platform.

  2. Work with clients on real-world projects to be able to better my experience and give me a preview of my possible career in the future.

  3. Learn about analytics and how they are analyzed and used in social media.

In 2024, I learned a lot about myself. I think the biggest thing I learned this year was the idea of love yours and that comparison is the thief of joy. At times, I found myself thinking negatively because of what I didn’t have instead of appreciating and taking care of the things I do have. You will never truly find happiness if you don’t love what you have and who you are. This mindset change has made my life better, and I will continue with this mindset for the rest of my life. I am thankful for what I have. At the end of the day, all you have is yourself, so you need to take care of yourself physically and mentally. Everything you have in life is a privilege. Education, the ability to move your body, and family are all privileges, and I am very thankful. I like the idea of living for someone who can’t, moving your body because someone out there can’t, it’s a perspective I had never thought about before. I have learned to put myself first and I no longer care how others view or perceive me because that has nothing to do with who I am. I know that people love me, and I will continue to meet people who will love me for who I am.

My life!

Something About Me

Something you should know about me is that I have a very close relationship with my family. Family is everything to me. I live with my older brother (23), younger brother (15), and my mom (41). All of my family lives in my small hometown, which is why we are so close; we are able to see each other very often. Having close relationships with my family is very important to me. I would not be where I am today without them.

2 Things I Learned About My Work From Digital Analytics

1. Google Analytics:

I found this to be the most important and useful thing I was taught this semester. It taught me the importance of creating trackable links in social media. Google Analytics is a huge resource tool for all kinds of data. The types of data you can see on Google Analytics are a resourceful thing to have and know when working in social media. Over the semester, I have learned how to track viewers in terms of demographics, geography, device usage, platform, and overall traffic on my links. This type of information is useful to know how your posts are doing and give you insight into what you need to change to improve. Allowing me to make better decisions when posting to optimize views. Learning Google Analytics will become a useful tool for me in my future career.

2. Social Media Audits

This semester, I learned the importance of conducting social media audits. Whether you're doing it for a client or for your own social media platforms. I found this very interesting because I had never heard of a social media audit before. I learned the importance of reviewing a brand’s social media presence and identifying the areas and platforms for the platform. I understand how conducting an audit can help you understand your current performance, weaknesses, and strengths on social media.

This blog was for an assignment where we had to track this blog on google analyitics. First we had to promote our intro blog about ourselves to employers ,friends, and family. Then we let the engagment of the blog accumulate over a couple of days. Then we were to go on google anyaltics to see the data and attention our blogs got. Check it out!

Social Media Audit: Airbnb

This blog was for an assignment where we were tasked to create a social media audit for a company. The company I chose was Airbnb. I did some deep research on their social media presence and was able to conduct a thorough social media audit. It’s very interesting to look at the way they adapt to different platforms, I recommend reading it.

Inside Influencer Marketing

This blog was created as part of a group project assignment. We were asked to write a blog on social media strategies, and I chose to do influencer marketing. I talk about what that term means, the different types of influencers, and some steps to create a successful campaign using an influencer marketing strategy.

Social Media Strategy: RiverHounds FC

This was the final blog for the class. We had to choose a company/brand and create a social media strategy for them. I chose to do the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. This article gives some history about the team and then gives some suggestions/ideas of how the team can increase their ticket sales.
